WATCH: Young Men Knocking at the Abbey Door

Nine days before Benedictine College’s Freshmen Move-in-Day, it was Move-in-Day for the monks of St. Benedict’s Abbey.

At Vespers prayer on the vigil of the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, three young men entered the postulancy at the Abbey located on the campus of Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas.

The video depicts the ancient ceremony through which candidates enter an Abbey for discernment. John, (Michael) David, and Thomas will spend the next four months living and praying with the monks, and perhaps stay much longer.

As the Kansas Monks website puts it, “No vow binds them to the Abbey and they are welcome to leave at any time. That being stated, every journey has a first step! Join us in praying for these men as they continue to discern God’s will in their lives.”
