When a baby is born, people ask, “What will this child grow up to be?” says Father Jay Kythe OSB.
In the case of this Sunday, when we celebrate the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, the answer to that question was “the precursor to the Savior” — but we each have his job.
Father Jay is a monk of St. Benedict’s Abbey on the campus of Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. He has served the college as an instructor and assistant chaplain and currently administers the sacraments at Maur Hill-Mount Academy Catholic school in Atchison.
St. Benedict Abbey’s 60 Seconds for Sunday series of videos looks at each upcoming Sunday’s readings.
The monks at the Abbey, along with the Benedictine Sisters at Mount St. Scholastica, are what make Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, Benedictine.
