A longstanding Advent tradition at Benedictine College, Lessons and Carols will take place Dec. 3 at 7:30 (prelude at 7:15) in St. Benedict’s Abbey Church. It is free and open to the public.
Modeled after the traditional Christmas Eve Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, originated in Cambridge, England in 1918, this service includes Old Testament readings and Advent hymns that prepare the congregation for Christ’s birth.
The nine lessons will be interspersed with congregational singing of familiar Christmas carols and hymns, and special selections by the college choirs. Members of the college community will recite scripture readings followed by special anthems by the Liturgical Choir.
The Benedictine College Music Department, along with the Office of Mission & Ministry present the annual concert, with a prelude by the Benedictine Brass.
