Look back at Benedictine College’s 2017 Commencement via the words of Dr. Edward Mulholland’s poem “Always a Raven.”
Mulholland, a Great Books professor at Benedictine College and occasional contributor to The Gregorian, helps begin Freshman students’ Benedictine College experience with a Beanie poem he reads at the Freshman Beanie Banquet called “Once a Raven …”. This year, he added a bookend to that tradition, a poem called, “… Always a Raven”
How did the poems come to be?
“A few summers ago I saw a group of old men. I watched at a respectful distance as a class celebrated their 50th reunion. I heard them sing the fight song. They hugged, they reminisced,” he said. “So many generations of Ravens have so many memories. That is why I wrote the poems. I imagined students years from now, trying to remember how they felt here on campus.”
