SLIDESHOW: Stunning Raven Mission Photos

Benedictine College students are making both a global and a local impact with a dynamic, far-reaching mission program.

About 1 in 3 Benedictine College students participates in some form of service, evangelization or mission activity. Currently the college offers 21 missions and two pilgrimages per year that reach from Atchison and Kansas City to Uganda.

In the 2018-2019 year, Benedictine College traveled missionaries traveled a million miles on 20 missions to 4 continents.

Students raised in excess of $293,000 for these missions. Benedictine College students inaugurated a church they had built in Guatemala and have broken ground on a second that will be built nearby. The college also added a new Mission to Suriname, where we helped at a shelter for girls and woman who have experienced abuse.

More than 1,000 hours of service completed by our Service Team and hundreds of student volunteers, spent more than 1,000 hours to complete 44 service projects that helped the local community, such as flood relief efforts, events with special needs children, nursing home visits, blood drives, prison visits, and yard work for the elderly.

A new Evangelization Team incorporated 465 students in its activities, including a crowd of 140 students at the first ever Benedictine Brew House (Benedictine’s take on Theology on Tap). They also now have teams of students promoting visits to the Grotto, athlete liaisons who promote faith-based events within their sports teams, and two by two evangelization teams that invite students to talk about God and the Catholic Faith on campus.

Next year Benedictine College Missions are looking to add several new mission destinations including Costa Rica, a new opportunity in Uganda, and several local fall break opportunities. Our “Mission Unpack” event was held on March 31 to allow students to reflect and process their Spring Break mission experience.
