Gregorian Chant Expert Nicholas Lemme to Present at Benedictine College

Nicholas Lemme

The Benedictine College Arts & Convocation Committee is pleased to welcome Nicholas Lemme, a noted expert on Gregorian Chant, to the Benedictine campus. Lemme will offer a presentation, “Silence is a Music,” on Wednesday, November 3, at 7:00 p.m. in the Gangel Seminar Room, located on the third floor of the Ferrell Academic Center. The event is free and open to the public.

Lemme, professor of Gregorian chant and voice at Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary in Denton, Nebraska, is a composer, singer and the choir master at St. Francis of Assisi Oratory in Lincoln, Nebraska. His works range from sacred choral music to cafe americana. He has also written for and collaborated with choirs such as The Singers—Minnesota Choral Artists; Schola Cantorum of St. Joseph’s Seminary, Archdiocese of NYC; the Church Music Association of America; and the Polyphonic Choir of Our Lady of Guadalupe Seminary.

As a musician, Lemme has sung, played and recorded music with The Dale Warland Singers, The Pines, and with Paul Fonfara of Painted Saints. He was a composer, mandolinist and founding member of the Minneapolis-based Avant-classical quartet Spaghetti Western String Company. In addition, he has written music for stage and theater companies such as Epiphany Studio Productions, Open Window Theater, and choreographer Vanessa Voskuil.

His presentation is sponsored by the Benedictine College Music Department. It is the second in a series for the Benedictine College Arts and Convocation Committee.
