He Got the Internship He Needs for the Career He Wants
He wants to improve lives by providing biomedical devices, and Benedictine wants to help.
The college helped land an internship for William Ediger, a biology major with minors in Chemistry and Sales.
“This summer, I will be a sales intern at Shamrock Trading Corporation in Overland Park, Kansas, as a carrier sales representative,” he said. “I will be working directly with carriers to coordinate freight shipments, negotiate rates, and ensure loads are delivered efficiently and on time.”
“Benedictine has prepared me for this role by emphasizing discipline, a strong work ethic, and service to others,” he said. He saw the college’s mission of community, faith and scholarship as central to his efforts.
As for community and faith, Ediger came to Benedictine as a soccer player from St. James Academy in Olathe, Kansas, with a heart dedicated to service.
“As a collegiate soccer player, I have developed discipline, resilience, teamwork, and a competitive mindset that I carry into every professional opportunity. These experiences have reinforced my commitment to continuous improvement and achieving ambitious goals,” he said.
The college further made him “passionate about building relationships, solving problems, and making a meaningful impact through healthcare.”
As for scholarship, Ediger said “I owe a lot of credit to the mentorship of my professors and coaches here at Benedictine, who have helped me develop as a student and an athlete,” he said. “I am so grateful to be a part of this community that has pushed me to grow both personally and professionally.”
Ediger said he hopes his experience at the school has given him a unique combination of scientific knowledge and business acumen, allowing him to communicate complex concepts effectively while understanding the needs of customers and healthcare professionals.
His goal for the summer is “to develop real-world business skills and gain experience in a competitive sales environment. Ultimately leading to a future profession in biomedical device sales.”
He said that “During my time as a Carrier Sales Intern at Shamrock Trading Corporation, I gained hands-on experience in B2B sales, negotiation, logistics, and customer relationship management. Working in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment strengthened my communication, adaptability, and ability to thrive under pressure while delivering value to clients.”
Ediger also hopes the position will help him meet professionals who can help direct him.
“I am always excited to connect with professionals in healthcare, medical device sales, and business development to learn, collaborate, and continue growing throughout my career,” he said.
