Business’ Nolan McCall

Nolan McCall is a senior Gregorian Fellow from Overland Park, Kansas. He is a Management and Marketing double-major, and is the club president of the Benedictine College chapter of Enactus, an international community of student, academic and business leaders committed creating a positive difference in local communities, as well as the world, through entrepreneurial action.

Nolan has participated in Enactus since freshman year, and says that this positive experience was a huge driving factor in his desire to run for president of the club. “I wanted to be able to help give students a similar positive experience to what I had, and to do my part to help make the club a success.”

Beginning his tenure right after a big change to the club, Nolan says that his vision as the President of Enactus has been to “do my best to help our current project managers strengthen and manage their current projects, help provide guidance to students who wanted to become project managers and start their own new projects, and to also help create a plan in which to boost our club numbers through recruitment.”

Nolan also led a project, three years in the making, working with the Boy Scouts of America, as well as Benedictine College faculty and friends of the college, to begin to first annual Merit Badge Academy. This past February they welcomed 136 Boy Scouts from Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, and Illinois.

The purpose of the project was to provide Boy Scouts from all over the Midwest with the opportunity to earn up to two Merit Badges from Benedictine College faculty and friends of the college who are experts in their respective fields. Nolan also saw this as a great opportunity to offer scout families an opportunity to visit campus and see the many great things Benedictine College has to offer. The Academy offered over 20 Merit Badges and will be looking to add even more badges for next year. Dr. Ryan Maderak served as Faculty Advisor and Patrick Schultz served as the Associate Project Manager.

Nolan believes the main thing he has learned through his experiences with Enactus is that persistence is key. “Failure is a part of life, and can provide you with many takeaways if utilized properly. With Boy Scouts, I failed in making the project happen for two years before I was able to succeed on my third try. I have told all of our Project Managers to expect their projects not to happen easily and might in fact fail. But, they should persist and move forward with their project in the face of adversity.”

After graduating May 2018, Nolan will be taking a full time sales position with Shamrock Trading Corporations in Kansas City. He had a fantastic internship experience with the company last summer and is looking forward to the new opportunities awaiting him!
