Defend Religious Freedom with Prayer

The Gregorian Institute at Benedictine College is looking for people who will recommit to pray for religious liberty. Click here to join the campaign.

The Memorare Army for Religious Freedom is a prayer campaign to support our “First Freedom,” the most cherished guarantee in the Bill of Rights.

The First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution gives religious people the right to exercise our religion freely — not merely to teach it, proclaim it, or practice it in private, but to live it. We pray, begging the Blessed Virgin Mary to come to our aid to defend religious liberty.

The Memorare Army responds to Pope Francis’ advice in facing the struggle of our time. “All of us, all the disciples of Jesus, we must face this struggle. Mary does not leave them alone: The Mother of Christ and of the Church is always with us. She walks with us always, she is with us,” the Holy Father said. “Mary accompanies us, struggles with us, sustains Christians in their fight against the forces of evil.”

Blessed Mother Teresa organized the first Memorare Army in Calcutta, India. Benedictine College President Stephen D. Minnis first launched the Memorare Army for Religious Liberty in 2012 in response to a request from Kansas City, Kan., Archbishop Joseph Naumann.

THE MEMORARE PRAYER
(From the Compendium of the Catechism of the Catholic Church)

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary,
that never was it known
that anyone who fled to thy protection,
implored thy help,
or sought thy intercession,
was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence,
I fly unto thee,
O Virgin of virgins, my Mother.
To thee do I come,
before thee I stand,
sinful and sorrowful.
O Mother of the Word Incarnate,
despise not my petitions,
but in thy mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.
