Benedictine Alum Durell Anthony Returns to Atchison for a Free Concert

Durell Anthony

When Durell Anthony steps to the mic, the audience is in for a treat. The popular singer, songwriter and 2008 graduate of Benedictine College has been living in Southern California working on his music career, but he will return to his hometown of Atchison, Kansas, and his alma mater for a special concert on Friday, Nov. 10, 2023, at 7:00 p.m. in O’Malley-McAllister Auditorium on the Benedictine College campus. The event “An evening with Durell Anthony” is FREE and open to the public.

Anthony leapt into the national spotlight in 2021 with his appearance as a contestant on NBC’s “The Voice.” His Blind Audition for the show has amassed over 860K views on Instagram and nearly 1 million views on Tik Tok, earning him a chance to work with one of his musical idols and sources of inspiration, John Legend.

While drawing from the influences of performers like Legend, Stevie Wonder, and Lionel Richie, Anthony has cultivated his own smooth, soulful voice. His talent was well-known at Benedictine College during his days as a student and he performed on campus regularly. He was even a featured singer at two of the college’s signature Scholarship Ball events. He graduated in 2008 with a degree in Sociology and his involvement on campus, his talent, and his willingness to share it were recognized at Commencement with the Fran Jabara Leadership Award.

With his sociology degree and his love of working with children, his initial path after graduation was to go into counseling and teaching, but he always knew he wanted to sing. He moved to California in 2010 for a summer job and while he was in San Diego, he joined several bands which led to his re-immersion into music. Throughout his career, he’s shared the stage with some of music’s most celebrated artists including Carrie Underwood and Yolonda Adams. He’s also performed private events for well-known brands such as Bank Of America, BMW, Coca Cola, and Chic-Fil-A. In addition, his voice has contributed to several TV projects for Disney, Fox, NBC and Peacock. All along, he has been working on his original music, including the singles “Speechless,” “Dive,” and “While You’re Here.” His original music is available on all streaming platforms.
