Symposium Will Address the Eucharistic Crisis
Benedictine College Editorial StaffIt’s time to address the crisis in the Church — the crisis of faith in the Eucharist. The 2023 Symposium on Transforming Culture in America is set to begin at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, March 24-25.
The program will feature Elizabeth Lev author and professor at the Angelicum in Rome and Francis X. Maier, who was editor of the National Catholic Register before he began working closely with Denver Archbishop James Francis Stafford of Denver and Archbishop Charles Chaput.
Other speakers include Our Sunday Visitor’s Father Patrick Briscoe and Jason Shanks, and Notre Dame’s John Cavadini and Timothy O’Malley — along with Larry Feingold from Kenrick-Glennon Seminary and Nathanial Peters from Morningside Institute.
The theme is “Proclaiming the Real Presence: The Body of Christ in a Secular World.”
A business track will feature Bob Pruitt of Alliance Defending Freedom; Larry Ryan of Ryan Lawn and Tree; Colynn Black of Metalcraft, Inc.; Chris Patton and Jody Armstrong and Benedictine College professor Leeds Haroldson.
“This year’s Symposium is part of Benedictine College’s participation in the National Eucharistic Revival, an multi-year project of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops,” said Dr. Matthew Muller, the Benedictine College theologian who organizes the event.
“We want to address the power of the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist as a source of cultural transformation.”
“As the ‘source and summit’ of Catholic faith, the Eucharist touches all aspects of the life of the Church, especially Her mission to evangelize individuals and culture,” said Muller. “Proclaiming the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist proposes a response to the expressive individualism, social atomism, and technocratic materialism of secular culture.”
